Legal queries that we have received – like the colours of the rainbow

We are often asked what it is that we do. It is a difficult question to answer. Sort of like answering where the end of the rainbow is! So we thought it might be useful to draw up a list of queries we have received over time to give you an idea. You can see the list in the attachment below.

This list merely records the query as it was received and the category of law it might fall into. It has been edited to ensure that confidentiality is maintained. The list does not show if we took the matter on or not. We also do not indicate what the resolution for the query was or might have been. It is purely to illustrate the wide range of issues people face every day.

It is easy to see from the list that every case is different. Small things may change the way a case is dealt with or the advice that may be given. This is why attorneys must consult fully with their clients, and why your lawyer will often need several meetings with you as your matter develops. New information can come up during a case, the other side of a dispute may raise a new issue or you may have a change of circumstances. It's a process as they say, and one requiring a lot of communication. In this way every case is unique.

We hope that this list offers a small window into the extent and variety of questions that are faced by people everyday. These are also the issues that lawyers, and people like social workers, psychologists, mediators, policemen, and the staff at the Courts are trying to help resolve.

From the perspective of the client it may also help people to realise that others are asking similar questions and facing similar issues all the time. As always, we invite you to raise your questions with us. The sooner the better!

From the team.
